matthew 11:28-30

28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
~ Matthew 11:28-30

jesus pleads - forget me not

Poetry:

"Jesus Pleads, Forget Me Not"

Forget Me not upon the silent altar!
They pass me by and leave Me alone.
With love enough for all and every other,
For Me, their God, their hearts are cold as stone.

Forget Me not, for I am ever waiting
For friends who will My bitter wrongs atone.
Forget Me not for I am ever craving
To find true hearts who make My woes their own.

Forget Me not, when desolation tempts thee
To plunge into the world's tempestous sea.
REmember how the sinnersad and weary
My heart inviteth, saying, "Come to Me."

Forget Me not lest one day I upbraid thee,
That coming in thou gavest Me no kiss,
And oh! no thought in bitterness acan equal
The self-reproachful agony of this.

Forget me not in the weariness of sorrow:
There is a home for thee, thy Savior's breast.
Be comforted, the day is ever nearing
When thou wilt find there long and endless rest!

prayer passage of saint alphonsus de liguori

Prayer Passage:
"He who prays is certain to be saved;
while he who prays not is certain to be damned.
All the saints were saved, and came to be saints by praying;
all the accursed souls in hell were lost through neglect of prayer. -
If they had prayed, it is certain that they would not have been lost,
and this will be one of the greatest occasions of their anguish in hell.
The thought that they might have saved themselves so easily -
that they had only to beg God to help them,
but that now the time is past when this could avail them."
-Saint Alphonsus de Liguori, "The Necessity of Prayer"

to bring heaven to your soul

(Pray!)
A little faith will bring your soul to heaven,
but a lot of faith will bring heaven to your soul.
-Dwight L. Mood

to learn to laugh

Prayer / Poetry:
God grant that I may see the joke of things,
the little things that bother now and then.
God grant my sense of humor to be strong -
to weep a bit, and yet to smile again.
God grant there be a chuckle in each tear,
to every trial, God grant a funny half...
And when I'm to be judged perhaps He'll say,
"Are you the soul who always tried to laugh?"
And when I nod and answer, "Yes I am -
I tried to kill my troubles with a grin,"
Perhaps He'll smile and say, "That was a task -
but here's the Gate of Heaven, Enter in!"

to keep you all day

Prayer should be the key of the morning;
the lock of the evening.
- Owen Fellthan

to tell Him you love Him (saint francis xavier)

Prayer / Poetry:
My God, I love You!
I love You -Not that You may in heaven save me,
nor because those who don't love You must suffer fire eternally; -
You dear Jesus, on the cross embraced me;
You bore the nails, the lance,
thorns and pains,
sweat and agony -
death itself,
and all for one who was your enemy.
Why then, O Jesus, should I not love You -
Who have been most loving to me -
Not that in heaven You may save me,
nor because of some reward for me,
or lest in hell I burn eternally...
As You have loved me, so I love and will love Thee -
solely because Thou art my King,
and God of my whole being, Who loved me,
and suffered so much for me...
-Saint Francis Xavier

to calm troubles

Poetry:
Whenever I am troubled,
and lost in deep despair,
I bundle all my troubles up,
and go to God in prayer...
I tell Him I am heartsick,
and lost and lonely too,
that my mind is deeply burdened,
and I don't know what to do...
But I know He stilled the tempest,
and calmed the angry sea -
And I humbly ask if in His love
He'll do the same for me...
And then I just keep quiet,
and think only thoughts of peace;
And if I abide in stillness,
my 'restless murmurings' cease.

prayer to the Savior, my journey's Companion to life and friendship

Prayer:
Divine Savior,
be my my life's companion
as You were for the disciples of Emaus.
They wandered sad and distressed
along the road that led away from the cross.
Thus did they meet You,
without recognizing You.
Your words renewed their spirits,
and they recognized You as You broke the bread of friendship.
Lord, remind me of that
when I am sad and can go no further.
Then let me remember that You love me,
and that You are near me.
Instead of retreating within myself and being alone in my sorrow,
I will think of You.
And with Your friendship, I will make my way
renewed in spirit and with a joyful heart.

finding comfort

Poetry:
When your heart is sad and lonely,
and your friends seem far away,
turn to Him Who is all holy,
and He'll drive your cares away.
When a dear one seems to fail you,
when for friendship true you long,
confide in Him Who is all true,
and He'll right your every wrong.
Jesus' heart is your true refuge,
to Him you can always flee,
even when your hopes are sinking,
He will then a True Friend be.
He will soothe your lonely spirit,
He will love and bless and say,
"Come to Me and I will comfort you
today and every day."

the difference

Poetry :
I got up early one morning
and rushed right up into the day.
I had so much to accomplish
that I didn't have time to pray.
Problems fast tumbled about me,
and heavier came each task.
"Why doesn't God help me," I wondered.
He answered, "You didn't ask."
I wanted to see joy and beauty
but the day toiled on me, gray and bleek.
I wondered why God didn't show me.
He said, "But you didn't seek."
I tried to come into God's presence;
I used all my keys at the lock.
God gently, lovingly chided,
"My child, you didn't knock."
I woke up gently this morning,
and paused before entering the day;
I had so much to accomplish
that I had to take time to pray.
